HOW TO GET THE BEST OUT A CLASS SESSION

Two students in a class are taught by one teacher, same time, same course and one becomes a champion and the other stays at the bottom.  I think we can correct this anomaly. This is what you should do;
1.       Research on the topic before you join the class
This is the best way to have a gist of what is going to happen in class. Collect the topic from your teacher and go home and do your own private studies. You might not understand everything but it prepares your mind for easy assimilation during lectures. Furthermore, you’d be able to answer questions which would boost your morale in class.

2.       Don’t skip class
If you missed classes your situation is worse. You might collect the notes from a friend but you would still not get the understanding, bad for you. Worst of all, you might not have the notes and so when it is exam time you’d be surprised with questions you know nothing about.

3.       Join the class early
Most students are often late for class and so they miss the introduction. This would affect your understanding of the topic. There is one punishment which goes with this behavior, once you don’t understand; the rest of the lectures would not be useful to you. Understanding is what would make you remember for exams. This situation can hurt studies if it is mathematics. The examples you study is something you build upon to understand the difficult ones.

4.       Be active in class
When you are given short tests, do some. Lift your hands up, ask and answer questions. This would keep your mind alert and help you have a good class. The teacher would also notice you and pay attention to you and make sure you understand.   That’s one trick about teachers, they don’t focus on everybody. Once a few people understand the topic it is alright by them; at least they have somebody who can perform well to testify to their teaching ability. That is why I always prefer a small class where everybody has the teacher’s attention. I will always say it; a big class is a disadvantage.

5.       Take assignments home and practice
This would serve as a reminder. It would also show whether you really understood what was done in class. For instance, when I teach I give lots of assignments. If you are a lazy person you can’t be in my class and if you are serious and do my assignments I guarantee you can never fail. When you take my assignments home, you take my studies home as well and we are able to finish the topic in the shortest time. That’s smart isn’t it?
